Reflections on an April Night

Someone, a long. long time ago told me this:
An inferior man wants for himself all those things that he would begrudge others;
A superior man wants for others all those things he dreams of for himself.

Liberty.
Justice.
Peace.

Laugh or Cry?

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
US Const. Amendment IV

Sometime you have to laugh because it's funny.
Sometimes you have to laugh because it isn't funny at all.
Sometimes you have to laugh so you don't kill somebody.

This clever piece by Ray Stevens makes a point.
Enjoy a laugh.
Then take action.

Breaks

Ernest Hemingway said:

The world breaks everyone, and some are strong at the broken places.

Let's hope that goes for hearts.

The Truth is Bad News

The corporate-owned media won't be telling you this.

Hoo-rah!

It's official: there's grass.
It isn't tall, full and lush.
But it's there.
Enough to nibble.
Enough to titillate a hay-deadened palate.
Oh, winter may linger a day or two, yet.
But the grass is back.
And, with it, a rumor of summer.

Remember Waco

Something about the official story just doesn't pass the stink test.
Don't forget what happened to these people.
You could be next.

Big Brother

All lot has changed since Stevie recorded this back around '72.
A lot of it, for the worse.

STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Most of them are the dregs of their own society and they only come here looking for a free ride, to steal our land, and exploit our natural resources, bringing only crime and disease...if we don't stop them now, they'll over-run the country, take it over, and we'll have nothing left...

Mask of Sanity

Finished a couple new tunes in the studio recently.
If I can figure out how to get an MP3 up here, I'll post them so you can give a listen.
That may be a big "if."
New tricks. Old dog.

One tune is a tango I wrote about a textbook-perfect psychopath I encountered -- and the after-shocks from that don't appear to be finished, even now.
It's called "COLOR BLIND."

She’s the center of her world

She’s her one and only love

She’s only one who’s on her mind

No rainbow of deep emotions but

Shallow shades of grey

You could say her heart is color-blind.

She’ll smile at you so brightly

As long as you obey

Her every wish and whim and

Make sure she gets her way

If you watch her closely

She slips from time to time

Look behind her mask and you will find

She’s callously indifferent

Remorselessness defined

And she can’t change: her heart is color blind

You’re just another ant she steps on

Strolling down the street

Never giving any thought to

What’s beneath her feet

And when her lying hurts you

The fault must all be yours

She’s convinced she’s flawless and divine

She’s callously indifferent, remorselessness defined

And she can’t change-- her heart is color blind.

Her mask of sanity

hides inhumanity

deadly and depraved

She can’t be saved;

her heart is color blind

Stay out of her way

or the price you will pay

is more than you can bear

No conscience there;

her heart is color blind...

Don't Try This at Home...!

Or any place else.
'Cause you'll wind up charged with child molestation.
Unless, of course, you're TSA.
Christ, parents have been accused of crimes for less "inappropriate touching" of their own children.

Ok.
I confess; I'm in a bad mood.
I'm just back from dealing with a situation in which there is way too much power with way too little accountability.

But come ON, people!
Are we supposed to teach our children now than any authority figure can lay hands on them for no good reason anytime that authority wants? Any bully with a badge OWNS your body and you have to submit to them feeling you up, anytime, anyplace for any "reason,"or else.

Whiskey-tango-foxtrot????!!!!
If "patting down" a six-year-old in this invasive manner ---INCLUDING her pubic area -- isn't a star-spangled, 4th amendment definition of "unreasonable searches." then I just can't imagine what in hell IS.

If we put up with this crap, we're not sinking.
We're sunk!

A Little Bit of Hope

Something about a new-born pony taking her first steps that makes my heart swell up and push a little water out my eyes.

I needed some good news this morning.
Thanks to LW for sending along this pic.

Goes Without Saying

Or at least, it should.
Equal protection of the laws, you know.
But I guess the way things are now, we have to spell it out.

sj

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:
"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States .."

Exposing the Game

Without unions, you'd be working for fifty cents a day for a 16-hour day, 6 days a week, with no lunch break, no "coffee breaks" or even potty breaks.
There would be no such thing as over-time, sick days, paid holidays or vacations. There would be no retirement or pension plans.
There would be NO safety standards.
No fire extinguishers, no fire escapes.
No helmets, eye protection, respiratory protection, steel-toed boots or even gloves provided by the company.
You'd be forced to live in company-owned housing, shop at a company-owned store where the prices were a lot higher than ay other stores.
You'd have to rent the tools to do your work from the company. You pay extra if a tool was "damaged."
The company would deduct your rent, food, tool rental and so on from your pay until you were in debt to the company and working for free.
And there'd be not a damn thing you could do about it.
You quit, you pay up or go to jail.
You complain, you get evicted, beaten to a pulp, and you pay up or go to jail.

Those aren't the typical working conditions in the US anymore.
And that's only because of Unions.
If we didn't have unions, we'd be back to those working conditions overnight.

And the corporate stooges are working on that very thing.

Obama: Like Bush, only Darker.

See the entire video:
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/DennisKu

Lies, lies and more Lies...

Obama-scam, the ultimate bait-and-switch, may be the biggest "big con" in history.
It's Bush 2.o.

Illegal wiretaps, and spying, brazen 4th amendment violations by the TSA, cops who now shoot first and ask questions never.

The EPA says you're in no danger from radioactive vomitus from Japan -- and redefines "dangerous." This is the same EPA that told responders working at 911's ground zero that the air was perfectly safe to breathe -- the responders who are now dying in batches from cancer.

There's the SCOTUS anointing corporations with all the rights of actual human beings -- but none of the responsibilities.

And, of course, Walker in Wisconsin, and other neo-fascists in other states doing their union-busting best to return us all to feudal-type slavery.

The question is no longer whether you're paranoid.
The question is whether you're paranoid enough.
