Guilty of Innocence
Troy Davis.
Black guy.
Accused of killing a White cop.
7 of 9 witnesses against him have recanted, citing coercion by the cops.
One of the witnesses against him who hasn't recanted is the chief alternative suspect.
There's a truckload of "reasonable doubt" about Davis' guilt, but it looks like the State of Georgia will kill him on schedule, just the same.
Funny, there's no doubt whatsoever about the crimes of George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, including torture and mass murder.
But nobody has even arrested them.
In America, a poor man's innocence doesn't matter.
Nor a rich man's guilt.
Shame on us all.

"Eliminate the Impossible...
...and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
But you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out.

Pucker Up, Baby....
Wes was the best.
One of my all-time favorites.
Listened to him a lot when I was a city kid.
Still dig him.
I guess you can take the boy out of Chicago
But you can't take the Chicago out of the boy.
I hope you dig him, too.

Truth from the Late, Great George Carlin.
Carlin was my favorite contemporary philosopher.
As a teacher, there's only one thing I really try to teach: bullshit-detecting.
OK, "critical thinking" in polite circles.
If you teach somebody about that, they'll be able to figure out everything else for themselves.

Be Dangerous

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are.
