Horseman's Paradox

There are moments when I cannot be certain
Where he ends
And I begin
Moments when I lose myself
"We" becomes "One"
And in those moments
When I lose myself,
I find myself.

No Obamacare for Obama? No Surprise.

President Obama declared that the new health care law "is going to be affecting every American family." Except his own, of course.

The new health care law exempts the president from having to participate in it. Leadership and committee staffers in the House and Senate who wrote the bill are exempted as well. A weasel-worded definition of "staff" includes only the members' personal staff in the new system; the committee staff that drafted the legislation opted themselves out. Because they were more familiar with the contents of the law than anyone in the country, it says a lot that they carved out their own special loophole. Anyway, the law is intended to affect "ordinary Americans," according to Vice President Joe Biden (who - being a heartbeat away from the presidency - also is not covered), not Washington insiders….

The special exemptions slipped into the health care law are another example of how those statists who rule consider themselves a privileged class, imposing burdens on the country that they will not accept themselves. Candidates for office in 2010 should pledge to close these and other loopholes in the law that impose unequal burdens and create exclusive privileged classes in America. Meanwhile, we await Mr. Obama's explanation why if his "historic" health care law is so great for America, it's not good enough for him and his family.

IF YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY......

...Think again.

Michael Moore may not be my favorite guy, but he knows how to make a point, and when he's right, he's right, and in this case he's right.

Sadly, since this video was made, things have only gotten worse.

The St. Patricks

Having fled a dire situation in Ireland, they were recruited into the US Army "right off the boat" and found themselves swept up in the Mexican-American War.

They soon became disgruntled with their situation.
Maybe it was because they were Catholics, just like the "enemy."
May it was because they were the same social class as the Mexicans they were fighting.
And being brutally mistreated by their own officers, while witnessing depredations by the US that we would most certainly call war crimes today, did nothing to secure their loyalty.

Hundreds of Irish (and a variety of other nationalities) changed sides to fight with distinction for Mexico against the United States.

Their fate was the sad fate of Mexico.
But Mexico has never forgotten them.

Today, I'll break my training for one good belt of Irish Whiskey.

La Plus Que Change.....

This is the water torture.
We like to call it "water-boarding" so it sounds sporty and festive like "snow-boarding" and "skate-boarding."
It isn't.
It was torture then and it's torture now, and everybody knows it.

All the Bush torture-gang belongs in prison, from the guys who did the deed, to the lawyers who provided a legal fig leaf, right up to Rice, Cheney and Bush.
And now, so does Obama, for helping to cover for them.

Like Cattle to the Slaughter

THE TAO OF SPARTACUS JONES

Two neighboring ranchers were talking one day, discussing the merits of family.
One rancher had five sons.
The other had five daughters.
They commenced to debate which was better, sons or daughters.
"My five strapping boys will be able to help me work the place," said one rancher proudly.

The other rancher thoughtfully rolled a cigarette and then with a sly smile replied," My friend, your five sons will be spending their time at my place helpin' my five daughters help me work the place. But don't worry, I'll give you a hand when you need it."

Nope.
Life ain't fair.

Ruins of a Dream

The undoing of democracy as a substantive ideal is most visible in the illegal legalities perpetuated by the Bush-Cheney regime and reproduced under the presidency of Barack Obama that extend from the use of military commissions, the policy of indefinite detention, suppressing evidence of torture, maintaining secret and illegal prisons in Afghanistan to the refusal to prosecute former high-level government officials who sanctioned acts of torture and other violations of human rights.

I Want the Truth!

Nearly 3000 people died.
343 firefighters.

We owe it to them -- and to ourselves-- to determine who was responsible for this arson/mass murder and bring them to justice.

The obliteration of America, the shredding of the Bill of Rights, the War on Iraq, the War on Afghanistan, The Patriot Act, spying, torture assassination -- all of it has been predicated upon this one event.

This is THE issue fundamental to the future of America.
Not the economy.
Not the environment.
Because we won't be able to fix ANY of those problems unless and until we fix this one.

Stand Up. Fight Back.

I had a professor once who lived through the Nazi reign in Germany.
He told me that a grandchild of his once asked him, "How could you let that happen?"
Knowing he had done nothing to resist, to dissent, to fight back, he said, his only answer was to weep -- and now, he'll never stop."

I couldn't understand him at the time.
Now, I do.

One day, a child may you, "What did you do during that time?"
How will you answer?

Don't be a "good German."
Fight the Reich.

They Told Us So

Obama is a Liar:

Illegal Wars, Fraudulent Bailouts, Egregious Assault on Civil Liberties
Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney were Right About Barack Obama

Global Research, March 2, 2010
Truthdig - 2010-03-01

We owe Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney an apology.

They were right about Barack Obama. They were right about the corporate state. They had the courage of their convictions and they stood fast despite wholesale defections and ridicule by liberals and progressives.

Obama lies as cravenly, if not as crudely, as George W. Bush.

He promised us that the transfer of $12.8 trillion in taxpayer money to Wall Street would open up credit and lending to the average consumer. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), however, admitted last week that banks have reduced lending at the sharpest pace since 1942.

As a senator, Obama promised he would filibuster amendments to the FISA Reform Act that retroactively made legal the wiretapping and monitoring of millions of American citizens without warrant; instead he supported passage of the loathsome legislation.

He told us he would withdraw American troops from Iraq, close the detention facility at Guantánamo, end torture, restore civil liberties such as habeas corpus and create new jobs. None of this has happened...
